Y'all gona make me loose my mind...

In case you cared what DMX has to say about the up coming Presidential Election.

DMX_smk

Are you following the presidential race?
Not at all.

You’re not? You know there’s a Black guy running, Barack Obama and then there’s Hillary Clinton.
His name is Barack?!

Barack Obama, yeah.

Barack?!

Barack.
What the fuck is a Barack?! Barack Obama. Where he from, Africa?

Yeah, his dad is from Kenya.
Barack Obama?

Yeah.
What the fuck?! That ain’t no fuckin’ name, yo. That ain’t that nigga’s name. You can’t be serious. Barack Obama. Get the fuck outta here.

You’re telling me you haven’t heard about him before.
I ain’t really paying much attention.

I mean, it’s pretty big if a Black…
Wow, Barack! The nigga’s name is Barack. Barack? Nigga named Barack Obama. What the fuck, man?! Is he serious? That ain’t his fuckin’ name. Ima tell this nigga when I see him, “Stop that bullshit. Stop that bullshit” [laughs] “That ain’t your fuckin’ name.” Your momma ain’t name you no damn Barack.

So you’re not following the race. You can’t vote right?
Nope.

Is that why you’re not following it?
No, because it’s just—it doesn’t matter. They’re gonna do what they’re gonna do. It doesn’t really make a difference. These are the last years.

But it would be pretty big if we had a first Black president. That would be huge.
I mean, I guess…. What, they gon’ give a dog a bone? There you go. Ooh, we have a Black president now. They should’ve done that shit a long time ago, we wouldn’t be in the fuckin’ position we in now. With world war coming up right now. They done fucked this shit up then give it to the Black people, “Here you take it. Take my mess.”

Right, exactly.
It’s all a fuckin’ setup. It’s all a setup. All fuckin’ bullshit. All bullshit. I don’t give a fuck about none of that.

We could have a female president also, Hillary Clinton.
I mean, either way it doesn’t matter. I don’t care. No one person is directly affected by which president, you know, so what does it matter.

Yeah, but the country is.
I guess. The president is a puppet anyway. The president don’t make no damn decisions.

The president…they don’t have that much authority basically?
Nah, never.

But Bush pretty much…
You think Bush is making fuckin’ decisions?

He did, yeah, he fucked up the country.
He act like he making decisions. He could barely speak! He could barely fuckin’ speak!
Can’t be serious. He ain’t making no damn decisions.

Well Barack has a good chance of winning so that might be something.
Good for him, good for him.

Anyone can?

So I'll say it.  I am a Radiohead fan.   Now this may not be a shocking confession.  Lots of people are.  Finch is a huge Radiohead fan.   However, the extent of my Radiohead fandom extends to one album, and one album alone.   I like Pablo Honey.  In fact, I LOVE Pablo Honey!   In my opinion it belongs in discussions of the greatest alternative rock albums of the 1990's along with Nirvana's "Nevermind", "Siamese Dream" by the Smashing Pumpkins and The Goo Goo Dolls' "Superstar Carwash".     It makes me sad that no one talks about this album, and that the songs are very rarely performed by the band live.   Now, I know that they have all sorts of other albums that are all considered to be wonderful works of art.  I know, I have them all on my iPod.  Have I ever listened to them?  Not really.   I'm sorry to say it, but I just don't find it all that interesting.  When I hear songs from the later albums I like them.   It's just when it comes down it it, if I am going to put on a Radiohead album it's going to be Pablo Honey.   Here is a little video for you.  Finch showed me this.  It's pretty painful, but fun.  Certainly not your kid's Radiohead.

It Was a Good Weekend...

Howdy all those out there in Blog land. I got to say. I love weekends like this. You know the kind where Sunday rolls around and your sand to know you got five who days until the next one. It's been a fun weekend. Friday started off well. We sold out the Book of Liz at CiC again. (Have you sponsored me yet in my company's bowl-a-thon?) Then I ran a second show following that one at another theatre. Finch met me at the show. (She sat through 2 horrid female sketch groups, this is how I know she loves me.) We stopped by The Gent's place after for a bit and then went home. Saturday morning welcomed us with sunshine but a harsh wind. Finch had a hair appointment down in Wicker Park called Strange Beauty. It was a cool little salon and they give pretty good hair cuts. Finch looked great when they were done. While she was in the shop I took the chance to explore Milwaukee avenue a bit. I bought a new pair of white NBA Addidas which I think are pretty sweet looking.

After the hair cutting and shoe shopping we kept exploring. Lunch was had, and we visited a great store called Futurgarb. They had lots of cute clothes for Finch and an assortment of fedoras that would make Subscription Girl cry with joy. They also had three cats running around the store that were more then happy to climb all over me while I waited in the "boyfriend" section while Finch tried on some things. Continuing on I purchased my second pair of sneakers for the day. This time blue suede Converse One Stars.

The day was concluded by watching "Cat On a Hot Tin Roof." An excelent movie that I've never seen before.

New shoes, great performances, plenty of time with Finch. Yeah it was a great weekend.

Tonight...

Tonight I gave Kitten the last 3 volumes of "No Man's Land" and told her "Get ready for a serious Jim Gordon HARD ON!"

BufBloPoFo Day 14

BufBloPoFo Topic for Day 14: Link to whatever you posted exactly one year ago (or whatever’s closest), and give your readers an update on that topic. If you haven’t been writing for a year, give us a list of three or four things that are going on in your life right now that you’ll want to update one year from now at the end of BufBloPoFo09.

So I had a blog last year.  I just didn't have a PC.  If you recall my catastrophic system failure of a year ago.  I actually forgot that it was a year ago that happened.  Luckily my eventual replacement has been running well, and kicks some serious ass on games like Team Fortress 2 and The Witcher.  So I guess a few weeks of frustration were worth it.   I did get an improved video card out of the deal (Nvida 7900) 3 Gig of RAM and a spare 300 GB hard drive so I'd say it worked out.  However, due to my lack of a computer I have nothing to comment on from last year.  (Other then the fact that I didn't have a working computer back then.)

So What am I looking forward to in the coming year?  What questions will I be answering a year from now?

1) Did the Cubs win the World Series?  I hear this could be our year.

2) How are things with Finch?  I hope and anticipate being able to say "very well."

I suck at this introspective thing.  I need something to clear the pallet.  Something Garv-tastic...

Happy 20th Anniversary!

BufBloPoFo Day 13

BufBloPoFo Topic for Day 13: When the writer’s return kicks back in and all the good TV comes back, what’s your viewing list going to be?

This is a fun topic.  Now I don't really watch a lot of TV normally as I would rather be blowing things up on the internet.   However, there are a few shows that I do make time in my schedule for.  (That sounds really snobby, but it's not.  I don't have cable in my apartment so I only really watch TV at friend's houses.)   I think the show I am the most excited about would have to be "How I Meet Your Mother."   This is my favourite show on TV right now.  The 3rd season has been a bit off the pace of the 1st two, but I am hoping for a strong rebound.  I seriously think this is so funny.  I would highly recommend the getting the first two seasons on DVD.   The other show that I am really looking forward to returning is "Heroes".  However, I think that will be a bit of a wait because I think they showed all the episodes they had filmed.  I also will welcome back "The Big Bang Theory".   It made me laugh consistently during it's first run so I hope it continues to do so.

I want!

Someone in Boston was giving away a free Ms. Pacman cabinet on Craig's List.  Why you might ask.  Apparently this one came with five ghosts instead of four.  See this Ms. Pacman game is apparently haunted!  I'd take the risk.  Free Ms. Pacman is still free Ms. Pacman.ghost

This movie looks interesting...

I happened upon the trailer for this movie and can't help but be intrigued. I am interested to hear the pro creationist argument. Or pro intelligent design argument I suppose.

Definitely Mary Ann

Back when I was working sound at the Vagina Monologues here is Chicago I had the chance to work with Dawn Wells when she was a member of our cast. Me and Beck even got a wedding present from her. Looks like Ms. Wells got into a little trouble recently. Dawn is awesome, and was so much fun to work with. The mind boggles at the fun we could have had...if only we knew. If only.

FREE MARY ANNE!

(This is kind of weird, because last night me and Finch watched "Rebel Without a Cause" which features Thurston Howell the 3rd (aka Jim Backus)as Jim's dad.)

Guilty Pleasure of the Day

I don't know why she is such a guilty pleasure for me, but she is...

BufBloPoFo Day 9 (So What if This Is Late!)

BufBloPoFo Topic for Day 9: Share your own insider’s perspective on your hometown. Most of you, like me, are Talkin’ Proud, so share your expertise. What’s your favorite way to spend a Buffalo summer day? Which old timey Buffalo movie theatre is to most old timey? What’s your most vivid Buffalo memory (any Buffalonian worth his or her road salt knows where they were when the pigskin went wide right.) Your favorite Buffalo restaurant? (If you say Wild Wings, you’re dead to me.)

So back off, I did at least post yesterday, so I am still going strong as far as posting every day is concerned.  Yesterday was a busy day.  The time change has screwed with me more then i would have expected.  It's noon on Monday and I still feel like I'm walking through fog even though I have had my morning coffee.  Yesterday was pretty awesome.  I got to go to see The Chicago Blackhawks lose to the Edminton Oilers  5 to 6 in overtime.    Even though it was a loss for the home team it was a great game, and heart breaking when the Oilers lit the lamp for the final goal in overtime.  Sadly, I was a bit disappointed that Buffalo native Patrick Kane was rather ineffective throughout the game.  After the game it was time for sushi with Finch.

However, on to yesterday's topic.  I certainly have many fond memories of places in Buffalo.  A few of my favourite spots include...

1) The Eternal Flame Falls - Hidden in the forests beind Chestnut Ridge Park you can find this small waterfall that houses a natural gas jet at it's base.  A waterfall you can light on fire.  How cool is that?

2) Glen Falls Park -  An absolutely beautiful park that is hidden just off of Main Street in Williamsville.

3) Mighty Taco - When I come home the list of must visit places seams to get shorter and shorter.  However, Mighty is always on this list.   The BBQ Beef Burrito is heaven combine that with a nice big cup of Loganberry and you are golden.  However, according to the linked Wikipedia article they are no longer serving Aunt Rosie's Loganberry.  Can anyone confirm this?  If this true I am now more convinced then ever that the universe is conspiring to ensure I never drink that sweet sweet nectar again.

4) Niawanda Park - One of my favourite summer spots to walk.  I love sitting along the rocks and watching the water.

BufBloPoFo Day 8

BufBloPoFo Topic for Day 8: What are you listening to these days? New stuff? Old stuff? This isn’t a hipster competition; I just want to know what’s in everyone’s ears out there. Playlist me. Or, if you don’t feel like making suggestions, open up your ipod on shuffle and just jot down the first ten songs that pop out.

So what have I been listening to? Always a fun question to answer. However, if I want to be perfectly honest, most of my listening time recently has been devoted to the consuming of my weekly podcast schedule. (Often a difficult task.) I've always been a fan of talk radio and now podcasting allows me to bring my talk radio obsession to my daily commute through my ipod. I would highly reccommend any of these podcasts to anyone.

1) The Tony Kornheiser Show - Tony Kornheiser best known for his ESPN show P.T.I. brings his rather cynical point of view to current news topics. American Idol is discussed and analyzed as if it was The Superbowl daily.

2) Wait Wait Don't Tell Me - An NPR radio game show where listeners can compete to win Carl's voice on their home answering machine.

3) This Week in Tech - Leo Laporte formerly of Tech TV's "The Screen Savers" discusses the big topics in tech with a rotating pannel of guests including the super grumpy but REALLY funny John C. Dvorak.

4) The PC Gamer Pod Cast - Features the editors of PC Gamer. Squirels are frequent topics of conversation.

5) Game Theory Podcast

6) EGM Live - Got to keep tabs on what is going on in the world of console gaming some how.

7) The Control-Point - A Team Fortress 2 podcast, that is actually really funny.

Found in my Wallet: - Fake AARP Membership Card

As Garv can probably attest to, ever since my move to Chicago back in 2000 the American Association of Retired People has been under the impression that I am on the verge of entering my golden years.   No don't get me wrong, retirement would be awesome, but I don't think I'm ready yet.  The AARP sends me a TON of crap mail every month.  I found this card and thought it would be funny to carry it around.  I am old after all.

Alice Movie Update

Based on American McGee’s take on Alice In Wonderland, Sarah Michelle Gellar is no longer officially attached to this film, but Universal is.

Talent: Producer Scott Faye and director Marcus Nispel
Release: TBA
Prospects: The dark game found a niche PC audience, but Faye is refining the film’s script to appeal to a larger audience and feature a younger Alice.

BufBloPoFo Day 6

BufBloPoFo Topic for Day 6: What kind of stuff (toys, books, TV shows) were you into when you were a kid? Do you think that had an effect on what kind of a person you are today?

Intellivision2

The Mattel Intellivision II  - If the rest of the world really knew how much of my waking and even dreaming life was devoted playing and thinking about video games they would be frightened. The sad thing is (as anyone who's played me in Golden Eye can attest) that I'm not even that good at video games.  I just love to play them and have always been fascinated by them.  Well folks, one Christmas morning this was where it all started.  I actually struggle to think of an item I've owned that has influenced my life more then the good old Intellivison II.   It was my first video game console and seriously I have never looked back.   Who would have thought that my obsession with games like "Shark Shark!" and "Atlantis" would lead me to where I am today.  I make my living fixing computers pretty much because you can play games on them.   My iPod spends more time playing gaming related podcasts then music.  I owe it all to you Intellivision II.

Welcome to the party pal!

Support Chemically Imbalanced Comedy!

cicTShirt2

Hello to everyone out there in Blog land.  Forgive me for stumping a bit for a cause, but I thought I would throw this out there.  For the better part of the past year I have been working with a Chicago Theatre company named "Chemically Imbalanced Comedy."  Recently I was accepted into the company as an Artistic Associate.   In January CIC moved into their very own theatre space.   It is very cozy, but is still in need of some majour upgrades.  To help fund these improvements the company is having a Bowl-a-thon.  Normally, I am extremely hesitant to solicit donations from my friends, but if you would like to sponsor me you may do so online.   The proceeds from this Bowl-a-thon will be put towards the installation of an air conditioning system in our new space.   Any contributions will be greatly appreciated and will earn you mad points!  Thank you!

(Canisius College Little Theatre folks might recognize another name amoung the list of company members also.)
(Oh, if you have just happened by I'm Mark Beers btw.)

Goose...How can you hate texting when it gives us stuff like this?

BufBloPoFo Day 5

BufBloPoFo Topic for Day 5: Patty recently instructed on Starbucks etiquette. Beers and I occasionally talked about the proper way to ride the el in Chicago. Everyone has an opinion on the correct way to hang toilet paper. What do you think too many people do wrong? Well, here’s your soapbox, participants. Take a stand and teach society something.

So The Royal Toybox has given us a very interesting topic today.  As Mr. Garvey pointed out we used to spend a great deal of time debating what we termed "El-iquite" while we were living in Chicago together.  I think, when the general subject of etiquite comes up there is pretty much one rule that all people should subscribe to.  That rule is:  "Don't be a dick!"  Seriously, how much nicer would everyone's day be if folks in general walked around thinking "If I did that, I would be acting like a real dick."   I think in general there is a basic lack of respect out there for people other then themselves.  I am guilty of this on occasion as well.  If people in general would just be most conscious of how their actions can influence other people then perhaps I would have a case of Loganberry in my fridge right now.

This is fun

Co-Creator of Dungeons & Dragons misses final saving throw.

This is a bit sad.  Everyone hang your nerd heads a little bit today.  Gary Gygax one of the co-creators of Dungeons & Dragons passed away today.

BufBloPoFo Day 4

BufBloPoFo Topic for Day 4: Who would play you in a movie? Who would play me?

An interesting question posed by the good folks at the Royal Toybox.   I'd like to say someone cool like Edward Norton, but seeing as how I've already said I would make out with him that would add all sorts of weird dimensions to this choice that I am not prepared to deal with.  No, to be honest I would probably be played by this guy.  (Actually when Dodge Ball came out I got lots of e-mail from people I went to high school asking me if I was in that movie.)

I present to you Joel Moore:

grandmas_boy-001(www.TheWallpapers.org)

Now who would be tapped to play our illustrious BufBloPoFo organizer Mr. Garvey?  As he points out in his post Kevin James is such an obvious choice.  I can't look at him without my brain going "Garvey!?"  However I think I have to agree with DHKA.

The Other "5"

So yesterday I ran down the list of the 5 female celebrities on my list.  While some folks might cry foul that I get to choose a total of 10 folks for my list, well too bad.  It's my list, and Finch has no gripes about it, so here's the folks on my team I would totally make out with if given the chance.

1) Jamie Bamber - Actor (Battlestar Galactica)

2) Common - Rapper, Actor

The "5"

So me and Finch on one of our first dates had a conversation about who was our "5".  You know what I'm talking about.  The mythical list of the 5 celebrities that if given the chance to hook up with and suffer no repercussions.  Here are mine.  In no particular order.

1) Diablo Cody - Oscar Winning Screen Writer and Blogger

2) Alexis Bledel - Actress (Gilmore Girls, Sin City)

IN YOUR FACE AKJ8!

You just got ROLLED! 70,571 points! Boo-Ya!

BufBloPoFo Topic for Day 1:

The RTB has given us this topic for day one of BUFBLOPOFO:

BufBloPoFo Topic for Day 1: Look at you. You blog. You’re a blogger. You’re reading a blog right now and already thinking about what you’re going to write on your blog. So… tell me about your blog in general. Why do you have it? Why did you start it? What’s the name mean? Why that template?

Your Humble Author's Response:  Well, my blog is called "In Mark's Head".  While it may seam like a collection of weird random posts relating to practically nothing, I would like to think that just maybe it shows what is going on in my head at any given moment that I sit down at a computer.  I know there are others out there who actually plan out a blog post, and devote actual time to writing them.  I don't.  Welcome to the stream of consciousness that is my brain.  Usually, if a post takes longer the 10 minutes to write I get bored because my brain has moved on to something else.  I probably have more saved drafts in my account the actual posts.   I suppose if they were interesting enough to have been finished then they would have been.  Welcome to my world!   I chose my template because it is brown.  I like brown.

Oh... I also have this blog so that I can share great things like this with you!

1st salvo of BufBloPoFo is fired from Chicago!!!!!

My friend over at the RoyalToyBox wants us all to try and post on our blogs every day for 2 weeks.  Here is my first entry.

So I finally got to play Halo 3 tonight.  I feel so bad that this game is what passes for excellence on a console.  What a lame boring game.  The game play is so slow I felt like I was moving in molasses.  Give me my mouse and keyboard any day.  Epic Fail!
